Despair of my mind

"Computer," Leslie spoke to the black void at the back of Cargo Bay 2, "begin personal log and insert relevant stardate."
An echo'ed and solitary chime responded from within the void. "Personal Log, Leslie Cummins."
A deep sigh, "I could hear it again, the streets of Kengari Prime. The sound of the markets, the yelling of vendors in 100 different tounges all pushing their wears. The laughter and pain of the gambling dens. Sizzles and pops from crudely prepared food. The damn ground beneath my feet and the crowds all pushing their ways along narrow corridors."
"The smells, oh the smells. It burned my nose still. The smoke in the air burned my eyes as stumbled aimlessly through the crowds."
"I could see her, just ahead. I kept trying to push through but she was always just out of my reach. I tried to call to her, I was desperate to, but she kept going."
Tears welled up in Leslie's eye.
"Why wouldn't she listen!" He screamed.
"I tried. I did! I'm so sorry! I tried to warn you but-" Leslie pivoted, suppressing the tears and wiping his eyes dry.
"And then I was back, on the Bridge. The course set, and the only thing between my life and death were those few strokes on the console. A half dozen lives..." Leslie began to trail off, "...and my own."
He sat silent in dark room.
After a bit of time passed, he spoke agian, "Computer, delete log entry."
A lonely chime sung out as Leslie exited the Cargo Bay.
